Question 4 I read that the UVU talks about the SCV's "selective" heritage. What do you mean by that?

Question 5 Do your members wear Civil War uniforms?

Question 6 I have an ancestor who fought for the Confederacy. Does this eliminate my chance for membership in the UVU,Inc.?

Question 7 How do I apply for membership in the Union Veterans Union?
Q1. Anyone who had an ancestor who served in the Union Army, Navy,Marines or Coast Guard.
In addition, those persons who support the ideals & mission of the UVU (see HISTORY Link) and want to Honor those Men in Blue who preserved the Union by defeating the
Rebels.

Q2. Since 1995, the Sons of Union Veterans have drawn closer to the SCV. In 1996, they
issued a General Order supporting the flying of the Rebel Battle Flag over the S.Carolina Capitol Building. When the SUV floundered in
the publishing of their BANNER publication, they asked the SCV to consider publishing the magazine for them. In 1997, several 'pro' Rebel stories were included in
the BANNER. A number of SCV members joined the SUV and pushed for pro SCV projects, dividing the members on many issues. New members coming in were not aware of the 'NEW'
thinking of the SUV, and felt betrayed. Not
one Commander-In-Chief since 1996 felt they
should rescind the General Order of 1996 and
in fact, several reconfirmed their support. In 2002, the SCV showed that over 60 percent of their members believe that white supremacy is
their true "heritage", that those who oppose
this racism are the REAL racists and several
SCV Camps refuse to display American Flags
in their meetings or repeat the Pledge of
Allegiance. In addition, in the past four years the SCV has become closer to such groups as the League of the South, Council of Conservative Citizens and other identified hate groups. UVU is the only C.W. Veterans group that puts complete emphasis on UNION Heritage!

Q3. Most definetly! Women are no less Patriotic than men, and deserve to be a part of our Order. It always amazed us that many
men belonging to the SUVCW earned their right
to membership through their MOTHERS!! We also believe that for such Orders to 'survive' in the 21st Century, it must be
more family oriented. Look at many similar
groups (JC's,Elks,Moose, Masons, etc.) and you will see a near demise due to lack of
growth. We are proud to say that women Command two Command Posts, and several hold National offices!

Q4. The SCV and other Southern 'heritage' groups, have tried to sanitize their history
over the years, by either distorting facts or
avoiding facts, For example, their battle flag, always at the center of their efforts, was used on the battlefield by rebel soldiers for about three years. However, rebel veterans who started the KKK (and other hate groups)carried it for the next 145 years to promote hatred. All the while the neo-confederates claim the flag stands for heritage not "hate"!! Claims of black soldiers fighting for the Confederacy, the
creation of taps, etc. are among the lies
that have been used to advance their position
over the North. When these stories are taken
into the classrooms or repeated at living history events, history is distorted. And guess who cries the loudest about how educat-
ors want to remove Southern History from our
textbooks??! Another lie, of course! It is widely known that the SCV has lost members
these past several years due to an ongoing
conflict within their ranks. If you would like to read more, please contact our National Headquarters and request more info
as reported in the INTELLIGENCE REPORT as
published by the SPLC. Please send a long SASE.

Q5. The UVU maintains a uniformed "LOYAL GUARD". Members of the Guard are involved in reenactments, living history programs, etc. but serve the Order at ceremonial events. We
have not mandated a specific uniform, but ask that it follow the appearance of the uni-
form worn by the Union servicemen. Membership in the Loyal Guard is voluntary and there are no additional fees to belong.

Q6. Of course not! We all should pay tribute and honor to our ancestors. But we are a UNION heritage Order, and believe as a very wise man once said, "You cannot serve two masters at the same time'. Unfortunately, we
have seen too many conflicts in a Union order
where a few members put Confederate ideals
first. Overall, the SCV resents the phrase
".One Nation.INDIVISIBLE." in the
Pledge of Allegiance, and refuse to repeat the Pledge based upon the word 'indivisible'.
If one "honors" their Southern ancestor by taking this stand, it insults the Union Veteran's heritage. Some pro-southerners have
refused to participate in some projects where
the Union cause is put forth. Again, we Honor the Men of the UNION and know we can
accomplish so much more when our members are
geared to ONE cause! "United We Stand.Divided We Fall".

Q7. Contact the Jr. Vice Commander-In-Chief
by mail or write for a "MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION" to UVU,Inc., P.O. Box 331, Fair Oaks, California 95628. Please include a SASE
for a prompt response.
